Mortgage Sales Position Information
From LoveToKnow Mortgage
Are you looking for mortgage sales position information? Mortgage sales professionals typically work as brokers who can represent numerous mortgage lenders, or as a representative for a particular bank or mortgage company.
About Mortgage Sales Position Information
To work as a sales professional in the mortgage industry, it's important to have sales skills and knowledge about finance and banking. While there is not a specific degree requirement to gain entry into this industry, many employers prefer to hire individuals who have degrees in business administration, finance, economics or a related field. Depending on where you plan to work, and the type of mortgage work you plan to do, you may need to become licensed as a mortgage broker in order to work in this field. To find mortgage sales position information specific to your state, see the list of links to state licensure requirements on the Mortgage News Daily website.
Working as a Mortgage Loan Officer
When you work as a mortgage loan officer, you will spend your time helping customers identify mortgage loan options that best meet their needs. From a sales perspective, you'll be responsible for prospecting for new customers, building relationships with current customers to seek referrals for additional business, and building relationships with Realtors and others who may be in a position to refer clients to you.
Separate from the sales aspect of your job, you'll also be responsible for handing tasks specific to processing mortgage applications. These duties can range from obtaining information from customers required to complete mortgage loan paperwork, informing clients about the different types of loans available so they can make informed decisions about which products best meet their needs as well as analyzing and verifying details provided by potential clients who have completed the application process.
Once customers decide that working with you is the right thing to do, you'll work closely with them to make sure all paperwork necessary for loan approval is completed and processed. Once approval is granted from the lender for a loan to move forward, you'll work with your clients and the other real estate professionals (including Realtors, appraisers, title loan specialists, and others) to ensure that the loan can proceed from a preliminary approval status to the closing table.
Depending on the type of business your employer specializes in, and how duties are divided among employees, you may be responsible for residential or commercial mortgages, or you may handle both types of accounts.
Finding Mortgage Sales Jobs
If you're looking for a mortgage sales job, it's a good idea to start by contacting mortgage brokerage companies and banks in your area to find out what types of positions are available. Most banks publish job openings on their websites, so searching the "careers" pages on the sites of financial institutions where you might like to work can be a great place to start. Some mortgage companies may also list mortgage sales position information on their websites, but some of the smaller companies may not publicize this type of information online. You'll have a better chance of finding these types of jobs by calling and inquiring about opportunities or by submitting your resume to the office manager.
You may also find mortgage sales jobs listed in your local newspaper or on job search engines specific to your local community, as well as on national search engine websites like Career Builder and Monster.com.
Compensation for Mortgage Loan Officers
Many mortgage sales jobs are compensated on a commission-only basis. Even those that include a salary often provide only a small base rate of pay, with the majority of income coming from commissions earned on completed loans. There is great potential to earn a substantial income, but you will need to be prepared to put in long hours dealing with both the sales and loan processing sides of the business if this is how you choose to earn a living.
